Accessibility
This site is meant to be experienced by everyone: by sight, by sound and by sign. It aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What the site supports
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, with a visible outline on whatever has focus.
- Screen readers hear each work’s title, year, medium and size, and a written description of the image.
- Decorative marks, like the faint word behind each room and the pen line in the writing, are hidden from screen readers.
- Words crossed out in a poem are announced as deleted, so they are not lost to someone listening.
- Poems, the bio and the artist statement have a Listen button that reads them aloud. Where Christina has recorded a poem, it plays her own voice, and the full text of the poem is always on the page.
- Poems can be shown whole instead of revealed as you read.
- If your device is set to reduce motion, the opening sequence, the pen line and the reveal are switched off.
- Videos are captioned, and selected poems are performed in American Sign Language by the artist.
Still in progress
- Written descriptions are still being added for some images.
